Frequently asked questions

The sky doesn't move when I move my phone.

Turn on Live mode: on the Sky screen, tap the top button in the column on the right (the four-arrow icon). If your phone asks to allow motion access, tap Allow. On iPhone you can check it later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness.

The labels don't line up with the real stars.

Phone compasses are easily thrown off. Move your phone in a slow figure eight to calibrate it, step away from cars and metal, and take off magnetic cases or wallets. Also check that the place name at the top of the Sky screen is right; if it isn't, set your location in Settings → Location.

How do I find a planet or star?

Open Search, type its name (or pick one from "Up now"), and tap it. In Live mode, follow the gold arrow at the edge of the screen until the gold ring appears around it; your phone gives a small tap when it's in the middle. In manual mode, the sky turns to it for you.

Why does Zenith want my location?

To show the sky exactly as it looks where you are, and to work out rise and set times. Your location stays on your phone. If you'd rather not share it, choose Manual in Settings → Location and enter a place. See the Privacy Policy.

Does Zenith work without a signal?

Yes. The sky, search, and Night Mode work with no connection at all. Only the weather forecast on the Tonight screen needs the internet, and it shows the last saved forecast when you're offline.

What is Night Mode?

Night Mode turns everything red and dims the screen, so your eyes stay adjusted to the dark. Tap the eye button on the Sky screen, or turn on "Start in Night Mode" in Settings to have it on every time Zenith opens.

Why do I see fewer stars in the sky than in the app?

City lights, the Moon, haze, and clouds hide the fainter stars. Set your sky's light pollution in Settings → Your sky, and use Settings → Faintest stars to show only the stars you can expect to see.

How do I erase my data?

Everything Zenith saves is on your phone, and there is no account. Deleting the app erases it all.

Does Zenith cost anything or have subscriptions?

Zenith has no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or ads.
